Drugs weighing 704.687 kilogrammes were seized by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Anambra State in 2014.
Commander of the agency in the state, Sule Momodu, disclosed this
yesterday in Awka while presenting the command’s scorecard for the past
year to journalists.
Giving further breakdown of the command’s activities for last year,
Momodu also stated that 395 persons were arrested for various
drug-related offences, while 29 suspects had been convicted in court.
He said 86 new cases had been filed in court, while 57 drug addicts were counselled and released to go back to the community.
Describing 2014 as an eventful year, Momodu said the command was
involved in arrests, seizures, counselling and series of public
enlightenment campaigns.
He said the command was also involved in series of lectures to create awareness on the use of firearms and terrorism prevention.
He expressed deep appreciation to Governor Willie Obiano for the
approval of N60 million for the construction of a modern rehabilitation
centre for the agency in Awka and the provision of the land for the
building.
He noted that under Obiano, NDLEA was enlisted into the membership of
Security Council of the state and a member of the joint security task
force.
